Chartwell Covid-19 Contingency Strategy Update

So far, during this crisis, both us and our clients have been forced into a reactive position, channelling all efforts into mitigating the effects of reduced occupancy on our buildings and HVAC systems.

 

Chartwell’s response to the restrictions was a tailored solution via our Connect+ Bureau with the objective to minimise service disruption in keeping their buildings in good working order following the changes to how we all work.

 

Further to that, we’ve been looking into ways to be more proactive in managing building reoccupation via a three-pronged support approach in maintaining our clients’ buildings during this period of uncertainty.

 

We believe that to keep on top of our systems in the current climate we must take measures to:

  1. Prolong asset availability.
  2. Prepare buildings for re-occupancy.
  3. Protect occupants once they’ve returned to work.

 

Our revised contingency approach draws upon Chartwell’s extensive HVAC control systems knowledge and guidance provided by CIBSE & ASHRAE, which is currently being rolled out to our clients.

COVID19 – Contingency Strategy

As we are all forced to adapt our methods of working due to the COVID-19 outbreak and restrictions placed on our movements, we at Chartwell have used the tools at at our disposal to provide our customers with service continuity required to maintain their buildings’ HVAC control systems & provide valuable, expert support in these uncertain times.

We are now offering to all our customers, the Chartwell Remote Maintenance & Support Service as a replacement for our usual site visits. Using the cutting edge IOT technology that underpins our Connect+ Bureau Services and our remote desktop access app – Chartwell Connect, we are able to carry out 60-70% of controller servicing tasks, as well as provide operational support & remote emergency breakdown cover.

We have already begun the roll out to some of our clients who currently use our Bureau service and we’ve also provided connectivity solutions to our clients who did not yet have remote access to their sites’ BeMS network and devices, so they could also enjoy the benefits of minimal service disruption and the peace of mind that comes with knowing their building is being monitored & maintained remotely!

COVID-19 Statement

As current events around the spread of COVID-19 and its impact on the global economy continue to evolve and measures are taken to contain and treat the virus we wish to assure you that at Chartwell our employees and customers are our top priority. We are actively monitoring the situation and will ensure we communicate with you as it develops and our appraisal of the situation changes, helping us all to minimise the impact on our lives as we go about our day to day business.

At present and until further advice from the government and world health organisation we are continuing with business as usual whilst implementing the following list of actions to reduce risk where possible – We have also included some links to further information that provide accurate facts around the current situation and dispel a lot of the misleading information that is currently being reported.

Home Working

We are encouraging and supporting employees to work from home where possible, avoiding unnecessary travel and interactions with others.

Meetings Held Remotely

Both Internal and External Meetings are currently being held remotely with the use of TEAMS or Skype.

Company Team Meetings

Divisional company team meetings were due to be held in April – these are now postponed until further notice.

Factory Acceptance Testing

The panel shop has been closed to non Chartwell employees until further notice – we are in contact with our customers whose projects require panel FAT testing so that alternative arrangements can be made.

Office Visitors

Visit by non Chartwell personnel to our offices has been reduced to essential visit only.

Additional Cleaning

Chartwell offices are currently undergoing ongoing enhanced cleaning.

Availability of Materials

We are in constant communication with our suppliers to understand any forecasted issues. We have also increased our own stock levels to help minimise any potential disruption.

General Advice

Public Health England (PHE) recommends that the following general cold and flu precautions are taken to help prevent people from catching and spreading COVID-19:

  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze. See Catch it, Bin it, Kill it
  • put used tissues in straight away
  • wash your hands with soap and water often – use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
  • try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell
  • clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
  • do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean

If you are worried about symptoms, please call NHS 111. Do not go directly to your GP or other healthcare environment.

EMA Winners 2019 (Private Sector Energy Management Team of the Year)

Chartwell have been part of the team that have just recently won the prestigious EMA award for the private sector Energy Management Team of the Year 2019.

We were up against strong opposition, but our approach certainly caught the judge’s eye and our team came out on top as winners.

This award was won by collaborative efforts by CBH properties (Building Team), Carbon Credentials (Energy Analyst) and Optimum Group Services (M&E Services).

This journey began in 2018 with Foon Tse (CBH Properties) bringing the right stakeholders, creating a team to help take Cannon Bridge House on a journey to help reduce energy consumption, reduce carbon emissions and to improve space comfort for their occupiers.

Energy BMS initiative optimisation works has always been at the heart of Chartwell and it gives us great pleasure in being part of this award-winning team in delivering such works on the main plant control system at Cannon Bridge House.

We look forward to continuing this journey that we are already on with the collaborative efforts of the team.

We celebrate 10 years in business and preview the future of BeMS provision with a special publication: Chartwell at 10

A very special commemorative publication, Chartwell at 10, has been released today by Chartwell.

Bold, colourful illustrations accompany introductions from three Chartwell directors as they discuss a decade of achievements and where the company is going next.

The publication also collects together 10 of our favourite projects with even more bespoke graphics; for each project, we explain the innovations that led to success.

Elsewhere, a circular graphic highlights milestones in Chartwell’s journey. And a final section details the future of our BeMS service provision, which we call Chartwell Complete.

Paul Coker, Managing Director, says: “Ten years young and what a journey it’s been! The past decade has flown by. There have been highs and lows along the way – mainly highs – as well as plenty of hard work. All the while, we’ve remained focused on the challenge of continuously developing and re-inventing ourselves, both as individuals and as a business. Chartwell named BCIA Installer of the Year 2018

Chartwell has won the prestigious Independent Building Controls & BeMS Installer of the Year accolade at the 2018 BCIA awards.

Specialist engineering group Chartwell was shortlisted for two awards and picked up the jewel in the crown at the 2018 BCIA Awards.

The BCIA Awards are widely viewed as the BeMS industry’s mark of technical excellence and innovation, spotlighting emerging trends, best practice and top-notch talent.

The 2018 edition of the awards was held on Thursday 10 May 2018 at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole. Here, as part of a glitzy presentation, Chartwell was named Independent Building Controls & BeMS Installer of the Year, beating off competition from five other finalists.

Judges were impressed by our innovative work on the Battersea Power Station redevelopment programme, where we saved thousands of metres of cabling through clever design; the way we cut gas use by 32% at the Sainsbury Laboratory by redesigning controller software; and our major investment in a custom-built, online document-sharing platform which has maximised collaborative working for all stakeholders on our projects.

In particular, our achievements while working on a BeMS futureproofing project for a high-street bank stood out. On this project, we realised that revising the original scope of works (prepared by a third party) would result in better return-on-investment for our client. Working closely with our client, under the revised specification we replaced now-obsolete technology with 120 Trend IQ4 controllers and 680 Trend IQECO controllers. The project was completed with zero plant downtime; identified and resolved previously-hidden operating issues; has cut electricity consumption by 17%; and was delivered £200,000 under budget.

“We’re absolutely delighted by this win,” said Paul Coker, Managing Director at Chartwell. “This shows that our approach, which is characterised by investing heavily in people, skills and collaborative technologies to deliver innovation and excellence to all clients, really works. What’s more, it shows that our culture of putting quality first in all instances, including taking seriously our responsibilities to community, the environment and safety and wellbeing, puts us head and shoulders above our competitors. I’m thrilled for all of the Chartwell family. This award is as much for them as it is our project engineers.”

In addition to winning the Installer prize at the 2018 BCIA Awards, our world-first BeMS security package Chartwell Secure was nominated for the Technical Innovation of the Year category and our senior engineer Mark Johnson was named a finalist for the Engineer of the Year category for his groundbreaking work in controlled environments.

Chartwell has now won, or been shortlisted, for nine awards in three consecutive years at the BCIA Awards, truly a mark of consistent quality and performance.

For the third consecutive year, specialist engineering group Chartwell has been named a finalist at the BCIA Awards. We have now been nominated for nine honours in three years.

Widely viewed as the BeMS industry’s mark of technical excellence and innovation, the BCIA Awards are a highlight of the year; they spotlight emerging trends, best practice and top-notch talent.

For the 2018 edition of the awards, our world-first BeMS security package Chartwell Secure has been nominated for Technical Innovation of the Year. Our senior engineer Mark Johnson is in contention for the Engineer of the Year for his groundbreaking work in controlled environments. Finally, Chartwell Controls is in the running to be named Independent Building Controls & BeMS Installer of the Year.
